10 Tips for Hiking in Rio:

1 - Try to book morning hikes, is always easier and funnier. Rio can be very hot, specially in summer.
2 - Wear light clothes and a good pair of hiking shoes if possible, for obvious reasons.
3 - If you are allergic to mosquito bites, take your repellent along with you. We never know when they will show up.
4 - On sunny days, wear sunblock, a hat and sunglasses.
5 - Take at least 2 liters of water with you, along with some snacks. Don`t forget your backpack, you don`t want to carry it in plastic bags.
6 - Take your camera with you.
7 - Don`t spend the night before drinking and partying late, you will surely regret it during the hike.
8 - Don`t try to hike on your own. Lots of tourists get lost for days inside Tijuca Forest because they would rather save a few bucks. Hire tour operators.
9 - Raining during a sunny day in Tijuca Forest is more common than you can imagine, so take a plastic raincoat with you. It is cheap, light and very helpful.
10- Try to be happy during the hike. A sad hiker will not appreciate the view the same way others will.
